The latest offering from Bolton singer-songwriter James Holt will hopefully help lift some of these lock down blues.

Pendulum is an instant classic, my first reaction was to compare James to his hero, John Lennon. The song is about revenge, and as a poet looking upon the lyrics i can sense such a flow to them only found in the writing of Smiths-era Morrissey, and Noble Literature winner and singer Bob Dylan.

Like with Mystery Girl, it is clear James knows how to utilise his influences to create something so familiar yet so inherently fresh, the whole atmosphere created by Pendulum reminds me of early Bob Dylan. The construction of the song is also thanks in part to James Skelly and Chris Taylor, with Skelly even helping produce the track, and the work of James' band Kez and Aden.

James’ brand of bringing the 1960s into the modern day with his musical style really makes him unique amongst his peers, and, as I have stated before, he has an amazing voice and writing style. Pendulum for me is the best track he has done so far, and I know he will continue to grow as an artist.

Pendulum is out Friday the 15th of May, and James (and myself) will be performing a live streamed set as part of After All, so don’t forget to tune into as many acts as you can that day, all proceeds donated to Just Giving will go to Make-A-Wish and Musicians Against Homelessness.
