Now these are four men that clearly should be working together. Every element of this sublime track just blends so smoothly - each member knows their instrument well and the funkier than usual bass line provides an exceptional vibe to the song that compliments the warmer weather we’re having. To me this is a summer song, and quite frankly, we need this right now.

With obvious funk influences, James Snow provides a slapping bass line which builds a danceable foundation for the rest of the song, the rhythm section is utilised to its fullest, with drummer Tim Glynn working absolute wonders to compliment the bass line - all of the songs the guys have released so far haven’t been shy surrounding the rhythm section, however Blue Lagoon is definitely Tim and James at their strongest so far.
In terms of guitar, this duty is shared between lead guitarist Danny Harrison and lead singer Matthew Barber. Danny creates a somewhat Johnny Marr-esque riff, that along with the rhythm section creates a signature funk danceability, and when you throw in Matts additional guitar work, the whole track is just taken up to a different level. All four of them are skilled musicians, that work together well, but this has been clear since their first release “Elena”.
Matthew Barber is a man who possesses an insanely amazing voice, whether he’s singing his own work or coving someone else’s, he makes every word he sings his own. Ive seen Matt perform The Smiths three times and i genuinely believe he puts Morrissey to shame with the way he turned both “Bigmouth Strikes Again” and “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out” into his own. The soulful energy he brings to “Blue Lagoon” is outstanding, and he clearly curates the songs to fit his exceptional voice.
As I’ve previously said about Rivver, they’re talent through and through, each one of them knows their instrument exceptionally well, and the way they work together is phenomenal.
They’re an amazing band and seriously deserve more praise and attention not just in their native north west, but all over the country.
