Industrial synth sounds permeate DOVIAK’s latest track. This multi faceted multi instrumentalist has somewhat taken a break from working with Johnny Marr to release some more of his solo work, resulting in this piece of majesty: Venus Eye Honeytrap.
With dark vibes provided by a strong yet synth bass, and lyrics giving an insight into seduction, deception and regret, but with a hint of anger, perfectly complimented by the aforementioned deep synth.
His astute understanding of things both sides of the microphone means that DOVIAK has managed to craft a song with a compelling chorus, and a replayability that music in this somewhat undefined genre lacks. The strong rhythm section, which is clearly one of my favourite parts of the track, compliments the almost falsetto backing vocals (wonderfully featuring Alicia Vigil), creating a sound which to me is so new yet so familiar, it’s striking how I find almost a sense of comfort within the track despite it’s darker subject matter.
The talks of what feels like dancing with the devil, the narrator paints an image for the listener, DOVIAK’s songwriting really comes into its own here, in reality he is telling the listener the story of famous femme fatale Mata Hari and the destructive path her deception and lies left in her wake. Talks of poison, murderous intent and satan himself strengthens the narrators sentiments to the subject, bitter, yet somewhat resilient, calling himself “the last man standing”, almost a David style victory over a seductive Goliath; this creates a confident swagger in the narrator which is represented by the rest of the instrumentals, with an almost funeral march drum, and once again the rhythm section that just encapsulates the overall message of the lyrics.
This track has all the parts to make a connection with all those listening, from the lyrics to clearly my favourite part, the rhythm section; DOVIAK is sure to make genuine noise with this and his upcoming tracks, you can find DOVIAK on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
