Liam Gallagher’s newest output is completely lacklustre compared to his brother Noel’s newest output. Shockwave follows the exact same formula as Wall Of Glass, with a harmonica, shouty vocals, and very little substance. However, something LG will always have that Noel seems to lack, a stupidly loyal fan base of indie boys, who seemingly hail him as a god, which is something I think Liam enjoys.
Designed to be a festival front runner, Shockwave follows the typical cocky LG attitude of sit the fuck up and shut the fuck up. I find the harsh bass and guitar too overbearing, and it feels as if Liam is fighting with the instrumentals just to be heard, however it also feels as if he has nothing to say, other than spitting some insults such as ‘You’re a snake, you’re a weasel’ which could be aimed at ‘beige boy’ Noel, the lyrics only hit at ideals of karma, getting his own back, and the strategic release of Shockwave seems to be a dig directed at his big brother.
I wasn’t blown away by Shockwave, it isn’t saying anything to me that means anything. I know that songs don’t always have to have a meaning, but I feel that if you’re best known as the front man as one of the nineties best bands, you best show it. I have never been a massive Liam Gallagher fan, I enjoy Oasis, but his solo output leaves me wanting to listen to anybody else. Let’s hope his new album leaves more of a shockwave.
